The Complicity of the Dupions

The Complicity of the Dupions from the Transits Series

Doppio in Latin, doble in Spanish, Tamamayu in Japanese, “dupion” is the name given to a cocoon formed by two or more silkworms that have spun their cocoons together.

Larger in size and difficult to reel, dupions produce a complex thread, and it is in the beauty of their apparent tangle that their particular richness lies.

When these cocoons are stretched open, Mawata emerges: a fabric composed of irregularly arranged fibers, chaotically ordered, in which remnants of the cocoon still survive, delicately revealing their origin.

To the industry, it is a tangled thread; to other eyes, it is a complex thread. Because within its weave, at its intersections, the texture of a story becomes visible.

It tells a story that includes the other.
