Relics from the Transits Series

Relics from the Transits Series

The piece emerged from the discovery of fragments of silk that bear witness to an interruption in the larva’s life cycle. The silkworm usually spins a protective cocoon in which it transforms and eventually emerges as a butterfly. However, due to a genetic peculiarity, some specimens are unable to form this cavity. Even so, they follow the same vital impulse and completely empty themselves, leaving behind only a thin film of silk stretched out in space.

I treasure these remnants, which are usually discarded by the industry, and seek to revalue them through their uniqueness. In this fragment, which is also a discarded remnant, I see beauty—the particular beauty of its difference.

I choose to recover it and celebrate it. As a discarded remnant, it would be lost.

It is the way we look that changes the meaning, transforming a trace into a treasure, a piece of fabric into a relic.
