Connective Tissue Installation

Connective Tissue

Site-specific bio-textile installation

Exhibition: Ofrendas

Description of the work

"Connective Tissue" is a bio-textile installation that tells a family story through the skins of tangerines consumed by my family since 2020, following and awaiting the seasonal cycle of this fruit. Over the course of four years, their consumption has shaped this piece.

Motivation

This installation transforms a daily ritual that brings joy to the home. Tangerines, with their color, shine, and aroma, have always symbolized happiness for me. As a child, I loved peeling and eating them playfully, and today I share that same ritual with my children. Questions like "How does it feel to be on edge?" "What is the texture of a childhood memory?" "How can nature continue to live within me?" and "What is the Pantone of shared joy?" arise throughout this process, seeking new meanings in the things we love.

Re-signification of materials and emotions

The work explores the transformation of materials, emotions, and personal history over time. The tangerine peel, initially rough and of little value, becomes a soft fabric with a new texture and shine, revealing a new language. This process of re-signification is infused with affection, manifested at every stage of the work. The discarded materials become archaeological artifacts that speak of habits, customs, desires, and choices. What is discarded is reborn in a renewed context, transcending its original purpose and opening new dialogues. A skin. The skin, like our own archaeology, marks the passage of time and the process of shedding to renew.

The domestic and the sacred

This work turns the ordinary into something sacred. The different shades of the peels, depending on the varieties of tangerines, create a palette that records family consumption

over the years. Additionally, the work addresses the act of returning what is created to nature. The offering as a liberating act of trust. Offering a bio-textile to water, earth, or fire is to trust that everything returns to the natural cycle, transcending our control and generating new transformations.

Site-specific Biotextile Installation

Exhibition: Offerings (Ofrendas)

Dimensions: 500 x 500 x 500 cm

Tangerine biotextile skins address the domestic sphere as a territory of memory. Developed from the collection of tangerine peels consumed at home, an organic process transforms them into a new skin that expands, fills the space, and engages in dialogue with the architecture.

What was once discarded becomes sensitive matter, capable of narrating time, bonds, and their cycles.

The installation proposes a living tissue where the intimate becomes visible and where transformation opens up the possibility of regeneration.
