Algol + Eclipse

I embroider a constellation, a deep sky, a mantle: something that has already happened and that I wish to remember, something that comes from the past, a knowledge.

We tend to feel threatened by what is different, by that which we do not understand and is alien to us, by that which moves, which transforms, which possesses a particularity that exceeds us.

Algol, the most luminous star in the sky and one of the most prominent in the constellation of Perseus, exhibited enigmatic behavior. Every three days, its light would suddenly diminish and remain hidden for hours, only to later recover its brightness. Algol, mysterious and considered demonic by many cultures, was the flickering star that crowned the head of Medusa.

Medusa, whose name in Greek means protector and guardian, was the most beautiful maiden among the Gorgons, but her fate changed drastically: she was transformed into a monster and demonized.

Over time, Algol’s mysterious behavior was finally explained: this star, although it appeared fixed, was not alone. It orbited alongside a smaller one that eclipsed it, causing the dimming of its light. Algol turned out to be an eclipsing binary star in a sky where the divine and the perfect were considered immutable.

Eclipse, that which conceals or abandons, and yet in its movement ends up making space for another phenomenon to occur, and that which is hidden takes on a new light.

Uniting symbols and myths; what I witness today has already happened, and I want to engrave it in my memory.

I engrave it, I stitch it, I embroider it with what I treasure.
