Algol

A star, the brightest in the sky and one of the most important in the constellation of Perseus, had inexplicable behavior.

Every three days, its light would suddenly diminish and remain dark for hours before recovering its brightness. Algol, mysterious and demonized in many cultures, was the blinking star in the head of Medusa.

Medusa, a protector and guardian in Greek, the most beautiful maiden among the Gorgons, was violated in the temple of Athena by Poseidon, captivated by her beauty. Athena, upon seeing her temple desecrated, decided to expel Medusa and transform her into a monster with the ability to turn any mortal who gazed upon her face into stone.

Thus, Medusa, with her hair transformed into snakes and Algol changing on her forehead, is demonized and scorned for their differences and peculiarities.

Over time, the mysterious behavior of Algol could be explained; this fixed star was not alone, it orbited with a smaller one that eclipsed it, causing its intensity to decrease. It was a binary eclipsing star in a sky where the divine and perfect were considered immutable.

We tend to feel threatened by the different, by what we do not understand and is foreign to us, by that which moves, transforms, and possesses a peculiarity that surpasses us.

I embroider a constellation, a deep sky, a cloak, something that has already happened and I wish to remember, something that comes from the past, a knowledge.

I connect symbols and myths; what I witness today has already occurred, and I want to engrave it in my memory.

I engrave it, I embroider it with what I treasure.
